In February 1944, Lieutenenant Commander Harry W. Harrison, Jr., headed stateside on board the escort carrier White Plains (CVE 66), his voyage a far cry from like on board a large deck carrier as evidenced by his diary entry of 29 February. The carrier arrived at Naval Air Station (NAS) Alameda, California, on 3 March 1943, making Harrison's diary entry of the previous day come true. "Praise de Lawd! We get off this bucket tomorrow." |
